Housing Resources

Housing supports are provided by agencies and funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS). Here are some types of housing supports that may be available in your community:

  • You will live with a few unrelated people.
  • Provide you support for up to 24 hours per day.
  • Accommodate you based on your needs and abilities.

Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI), or subsidized housing, is made available by the Regions we reside in, to make rent affordable for households. In most cases, the rent for a subsidized unit is 30 per cent of a household’s total monthly income. If you receive social assistance the rent is based on the rent benefit set by the Ontario government.

These resources were developed by DSOHNR Housing Navigators to help individuals and families explore housing options in their communities. These resources review differently types of housing, tenancy, eviction and community resources.

This toolkit is a library of housing resources put together by DSO staff, with input from people in similar situations, to help you create a housing plan. The toolkit has been organized into 6 Steps to make it easier for you to work through the information. The toolkit was designed to help people, their caregivers and support networks learn about individualized housing options in their community, and provides tools to help you plan for independent living.   Click here to use the toolkit.
